These images were shot at Skull Cliff, southwest of Barrow about
25 miles, at the former location of a Loran A station. Everything
there was supposed to have been removed. The buildings are gone,
and so is the tower and the many radio antennas. However, there is
a significant amount of miscellaneous "junk", and unfortunately
there are hundreds of feed of copper-clad wire that was used to
provide a "ground" for the many radio antennas that once existed.
What we discovered were caribou skeletons from animals that were
getting entangled in the wires and eventually starving to death.
These are photographs of just one of the skeletons.
