Perhaps the most often seen image from Barrow Alaska is of the above pictured whale bones and umiaq boat frames, though most of the post cards show it at Christmas time, decorated with colorful lights!

However, close up images of the umiaq wood frames are rarely seen. What follows is exactly that. The pictures were taken late in the afternoon on August 1st, 2004, which is the day when the sun sets for the first time in Barrow since last May 10th. Of course, it doesn't get anywhere near dark on the night of August 1st, as the sun may go down, but not by far! It's still 18 days before it ever gets darker than "civil twilight".
